The brief asked for a poster centered on a current social issue. I focused on the unrealistic beauty standards that social media platforms both create and reinforce, because it is a problem with a clear visual dimension and a direct impact on the audience most likely to see this poster.
The poster was built in Adobe Photoshop using a combination of stock photography and original images. The final poster shows my roommate's reflection in a mirror, warped and distorted into her phone screen, with a "like" button overlaid on the image. The concept sits at the intersection of two ideas I had been developing separately: a broken mirror and a face being consumed by a screen. The mirror is how we see ourselves. The phone screen is how we perform for others. In the final image, those two things collapse into one.
The tagline is "Love Yourself." At the bottom of the poster, I included "Self Love in Hearts", an organization focused on spreading awareness around self-image and beauty standard issues, especially amongst teenagers and middle school kids.
The process for this project started with a mindmap and a brainstorm of words and phrases related to the topic. I then created some sketches as intitial ideas to the project, which I ended up combining a couple for my final design.
